Firewall Configuration and Implementation: Fatal Trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode while booting off the CD for install

We recently ugraded to GB OS 5.2 but it quickly caused our old ibm machine to lock up frequently sending it to 100% cpu utilization. I then read that the requirements for 5.2 were a bit heftier.

While attempting to install the original gb OS cd-rom (4.0.1) onto a 2 GB CF card in a newer computer, we keep coming across the Fatal Trap 12 error mentioned in the subject. This fault is preceded by multiple ad0: read command timeout and ata0: resetting devices... messages.

The new machine boots and runs GBOS 5.2 fine off a kingston 512mb CF card but the hardware requirements state it needs 1gb. I have tried both a San Disk 2GB and another Kingston 2GB card and both throw the same errors when attempting to boot off the CD to install 4.0.1.

I have successfully booted off the CD with NO CF card installed as well as with the 512mb Kingston CF card, so I don't think it is the CD.

I have tried turning UDMA mode on and off in the bios and it doesnt seem to affect anything. I have tried switching the voltage on the SYBA CF adapter from 3.3V to 5V with no luck. The bios correctly detects the CF card.

Any ideas?

I believe that recommend requirements is 1 GB. 512 MB should still work. There two modes now. Have you tried to install using LBA or CHS or both.

Did try to install on hard drive and did that work.

I tried LBA and it didn't work. I also tried installing to a hard drive which did work.

When installing with the 5.2 ISO the install failed at the disk label stage. (right after choosing LBA/CHS)

I heard there were issues with some CF cards but we were using a 512mb kingston CF card which worked fine, so I thought the same brand and type would also work in the 2gb variant.

No the cards are not all same. You would think it would be if it same manufacturer. It more likley a geometry issue. Some cards for example will install and will not boot to the opposite slice.

You could try using the erase disk on the installer. Just on off change their is something on disk. I believe this will fully format/erase everything.
