My first ieda was, that it could be a virus or trojan, that uses DNS protocol for communication. My latest idea is, that Skype calls on port 80 or 443 crashes HTTP protocol analyzer in firewall, if Skype establish a call through port 80 or 443. Firewall blocks all ports by default. There are only a few ports TCP/UDP for VPN clients and TCP 80,443 open for communication, so Skype will mainly use port 80 and 443 for communication. Update to 5.0.5 is planned for next days, but I found no information in release notes about such a problem. Any idea, why firewall does these random reboots? /nechai

I have activated syslog and there is a strange entry with long dstname=OPZKb+EQVcY597gBXnDhnB in near of each reboot:

...
2008-04-23 15:57:34	Local2.Warning	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:57:34 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:57:34" fw="67900509" pri=4 msg="Accept persistent outbound, NAT" cat_action=pass dstname=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...
...
2008-04-23 15:57:34	Local2.Warning	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:57:34 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:57:34" fw="67900509" pri=4 msg="Accept persistent outbound, NAT" cat_action=pass dstname=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
2008-04-23 15:57:34	Local2.Warning	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:57:34 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:57:34" fw="67900509" pri=4 msg="kernel: " type=mgmt
2008-04-23 15:57:34	Local2.Warning	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:57:35 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:57:35" fw="67900509" pri=4 msg="kernel: proto=80/tcp src=10.xx.xx.xx srcport=3519 nat=xx.xx.xx.xx natport=3519 dst=xx.xx.xx.xx dstport=80 rule=6" type=mgmt
...
2008-04-23 15:57:35	Local2.Notice	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:57:35 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:57:35" fw="67900509" pri=5 msg="Accept persistent outbound, VPN" type=vpn cat_action=pass dstname=intranet proto=80/tcp src=10.xx.xx.xx srcport=2128 dst=10.x.x.xx dstport=80 rule=5 sent=2246 rcvd=780 pkts_sent=2 pkts_rcvd=2 op=GET arg=/images/icons/html_01.gif
2008-04-23 15:58:44	Daemon.Notice	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:58:44 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:58:44" fw="67900509" pri=5 msg="GB-800e version 5.0.4 slice 1 active" type=mgmt
2008-04-23 15:58:44	Daemon.Info	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:58:44 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:58:44" fw="67900509" pri=6 msg="alarm: Email not enabled." type=mgmt
2008-04-23 15:58:44	Daemon.Info	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:58:44 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:58:44" fw="67900509" pri=6 msg="FWCC: Not enabled" type=mgmt
2008-04-23 15:58:44	Daemon.Notice	10.xx.xx.xx	Apr 23 15:58:44 id=firewall time="2008-04-23 13:58:44" fw="67900509" pri=5 msg="init: Starting NTP service" type=mgmt
...

How does firewall evaluate value of dstname=?

/nechai

Hi, For the first time on our network two WS2008 machines are attempting to communicate from the DMZ segment to the Private segment, via a GB800e. The call takes 30 seconds to complete - a quick check of the GB800's logs shows "proto=41" being blocked, and wireshark shows the servers trying to use ipv6 over ipv4. A quick google shows up that the servers are trying to use something along the lines of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunnel_broker but the GB800 seems to be blocking this. I'm not using NAT in the GB800 - the Wikipedia article states that "proto-41 tunnels (direct IPv6 in IPv4) may not operate well with NATs". Is this some misconfiguration at my end? I can't see where to un-block the proto-41 tunnel - I can't see a block rule that includes this. Is this normal behaviour for a GTA firewall? It's unlikely, but perhaps they don't support this kind of traffic? Have any of you come across this before, or can offer any insight as to what I'm missing? Thanks for reading! Kenny

The VPN client seems to be hit or miss with Windows 7, depending on NIC drivers. On my home computer, Windows 7 RC 64bit, it works great. On my laptop, Windows 7 RC 32 bit, it blue screens. I tried the newest Greenbow client, 4.6 which claims to work with Windows 7, but that somehow killed my wireless NIC, Intel PRO 2200BG. After fighting with it for a few days, I rolled the system back to before I installed the client and my NIC started working again. Like I said, I believe the problem had to with the drivers for my specific NIC.

We recently ugraded to GB OS 5.2 but it quickly caused our old ibm machine to lock up frequently sending it to 100% cpu utilization. I then read that the requirements for 5.2 were a bit heftier. While attempting to install the original gb OS cd-rom (4.0.1) onto a 2 GB CF card in a newer computer, we keep coming across the Fatal Trap 12 error mentioned in the subject. This fault is preceded by multiple ad0: read command timeout and ata0: resetting devices... messages. The new machine boots and runs GBOS 5.2 fine off a kingston 512mb CF card but the hardware requirements state it needs 1gb. I have tried both a San Disk 2GB and another Kingston 2GB card and both throw the same errors when attempting to boot off the CD to install 4.0.1. I have successfully booted off the CD with NO CF card installed as well as with the 512mb Kingston CF card, so I don't think it is the CD. I have tried turning UDMA mode on and off in the bios and it doesnt seem to affect anything. I have tried switching the voltage on the SYBA CF adapter from 3.3V to 5V with no luck. The bios correctly detects the CF card. Any ideas?
